Mood Disorders

This is where there is a disturbance of mood or affect and incorporates both physical symptoms and psychological disturbance.  There are two main types:
Bipolar Disorder 

Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety is a state of fear accompanied by physical symptoms.  In anxiety disorders, people become preoccupied with a feared event or state.  Anxiety can become focused on a wide range of events or situations including particular places, tasks or social situations.  Left untreated, anxiety disorders often worsen over time.  There is a wide range of anxiety disorders including:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Panic Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Health Related Issues

Psychological distress can be a real issue in those dealing with acute or chronic illness, and psychological interventions can be helpful in managing or alleviating some of this distress.  Common health related issues include:
Chronic Pain
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Health Anxiety
Psychosomatic Problems


Adverse Life Events

Everyone at some time in their lives suffers from unexpected or unpleasant events that impact negatively on their lives.  This can lead to concerns about coping and can lead to mood and anxiety problems.  Common difficulties include:
Adjustment Disorder
Job Loss

Appearance Issues

These are areas of concern that people may have about how they look, whether it is being sensitive about aspects of normal appearance or whether the concerns are about changes to appearance due to disease, injury, medical treatment, birth defects etc.  Appearance issues may also arise due to body image problems causing problems in eating behaviour.
